NCLEX Prep for Keiser University Nursing Students: A 2026 Study Guide

Updated 2026-10-03 · Independent resource, not affiliated with or endorsed by Keiser University.

If you're studying nursing at Keiser University in Florida, your coursework and the NCLEX test the same thing: safe clinical judgment. This guide shows how to turn each semester into NCLEX points, with a focus on pharmacology — medication questions are where most students lose points. This is an independent study resource. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Keiser University.

How Keiser coursework connects to the NCLEX

The NCSBN test plan divides questions into Client Needs categories: safe and effective care, health promotion, psychosocial integrity and physiological integrity. Each course you take — fundamentals, pharmacology, med-surg, maternity, pediatrics and mental health — feeds one or more of those categories.

Students who do well on the NCLEX treat every course exam as practice for the exam. After each unit, write down the three priority actions and the one most dangerous finding. Those notes become your review deck by your final term.

  • Map each course to a Client Needs category
  • Keep a running list of priority actions
  • Do 20 NCLEX-style questions per week from your first semester

Focus area: pharmacology

Pharmacology deserves extra time because medication questions are where most students lose points. Study it as patterns, not lists: for each item, learn what you expect to see, what is dangerous, and what you do first.

Read every rationale, including for the questions you get right. Ask why each wrong answer is wrong. That habit trains the clinical judgment the Next Generation NCLEX scores.

Second focus: fluids, electrolytes and lab values

Pair your main focus with fluids, electrolytes and lab values. Short daily sessions work better than weekend cramming: 30 minutes of review plus 15 questions keeps material fresh without burning you out during clinicals.

Most common questions students ask

When should I start NCLEX prep? Start light question practice in your first nursing course and switch to full review 6–8 weeks before your test date. How many questions should I do? Most students aim for 1,500–2,500 practice questions overall, with careful rationale review mattering more than volume.

8-week NCLEX study plan

  • Weeks 1–2: Fundamentals, safety and infection control; 25 questions a day
  • Weeks 3–4: Pharmacology, with a daily 15-minute lab and medication drill
  • Weeks 5–6: Fluids, electrolytes and lab values plus maternity, pediatrics and mental health
  • Weeks 7–8: Mixed timed sets, Next Generation case studies and weak-area review

Practice questions

  1. 1. A client with type 1 diabetes is shaky and diaphoretic, glucose 58 mg/dL, and alert. What should the nurse give?

    Answer and rationale

Correct: B. For an alert client, give 15 g of fast carbohydrate and recheck in 15 minutes. IV dextrose is for clients who cannot swallow safely.

  2. 2. Which client should the nurse assess first?

    Answer and rationale

Correct: C. A respiratory rate of 8 with new confusion signals respiratory depression — an airway and breathing threat. The COPD SpO2 of 91% is often expected.

  3. 3. A client on digoxin has an apical pulse of 54. What should the nurse do?

    Answer and rationale

Correct: B. Hold digoxin for an apical pulse under 60 in adults and report. Changing the dose is outside nursing scope.
